The Elder Scrolls Online: Interview mit Game-Director Matt Firor

Wie ESO MMO-Primus "World of WarCraft" die Stirn bietet

Tamriel Foundry Interview: Dan Dunham

Tamriel Foundry was given the opportunity to pose some questions to Dan Dunham, technical director at ZeniMax Online Studios. Dan was one of the founding members of the ZOS team, and his hard work on creating both the game engine and its megaserver technology are extremely important contributions to the development of The Elder Scrolls Online. I’d like to thank Dan for taking the time to answer some general questions about these two core features, and I hope you find his responses interesting.

ESO interview: The beta, first person and Skyrim

After churning in the rumour mill for years on end, Bethesda finally confirmed that a massively multiplayer online version of Elder Scrolls was in the work last year.

And it's a hefty undertaking, combining the expansive, freeform exploration the series is known for with the social aspects of the genre.

We chat with game director Matt Firor about the upcoming beta, first person controls, how the team put multiplayer elements into Elder Scrolls and the realm of Skyrim.

Elder Scrolls Online' Beta: Skill Trees, Player Customization, New Combat Details And More From 'ESO' Creative Director Paul Sage

The Examiner managed to pry a few additional details on "Elder Scrolls Online" out of the game's creative director, Paul Sage, during an interview last week. Sage confirmed that the game's combat system will definitely require a degree of finesse, with basic attack/defense maneuvers mapped to players' left and right mouse buttons and attacks of varying strength tied to longer clicks. "Elder Scrolls Online" players will also have the ability to map six commonly used skills to their 1-6 keys, a genre staple that many likely already expected when "Elder Scrolls Online" was officially announced last year.

Elder Scrolls Online set to prove (very) big is still beautiful (the first of two interviews)

In the first of two interviews, game director Matt Firor explains the thinking behind the game and why pockets can't be picked

Everything about the Elder Scrolls is big. From Daggerfall's mind-boggling 188,000 square miles, a virtual space twice the size of Great Britain, to Skyrim's blockbuster sales figures and right down to the sheer amount of plants in Oblivion, this is scale at its most all-encompassing. So it's no surprise that The Elder Scrolls Online (TESO), the series' first massively multiplayer online game (MMOG), looks like it's going to be just that - massive.

Elder Scrolls Online: How PVP allow players total control

Part II of our exclusive interview with game director Matt Firor focuses on player v player battles

This is part II of an interview with Matt Firor, game director of The Elder Scrolls Online. Find part I here.

Elders Scrolls Online splits players into three factions, and the rivalry between them is what its player v player system is built on. This is also an area where game director Matt Firor's previous work has particular relevance; the standout title on a long CV being Mythic's Dark Age of Camelot. Released in 2001 and still running, Camelot had an asymmetric take on PVP termed Realm v Realm constructed around three very different factions, and is still considered one of, if not the benchmark, for MMOG PVP design.

Paul Sage talks 'Elder Scrolls: Online'

We recently spoke with ZeniMax Online Studio’s creative director, Paul Sage about the hottly anticipated Elder Scrolls Online. Paul was kind enough to tell us what he could about the game but some of our questions had to remain in secret until a later date.

What is the background and setting for the game please?

The game is set in the Second Era before the rise of the Septim Dynasty almost 1000 years before the events in Skyrim. The old Empire is in disarray, and recently three powerful Alliances of nations have risen up on the continent of Tamriel. As each of these Alliances gathers for war against the others, they are almost oblivious to the fact that a dark pact between a Daedric prince and the rulers of the crumbling Empire threatens the world.

Elder Scrolls Online interview - Matt Firor

The Elder Scrolls series has wowed gamers the world over with its mix of epic fantasy lore, first-person action and open-world exploration.
Most recently, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was released in 2011 and received massive acclaim, including several Game of the Year awards.
The idea of using the world of Tamriel created in the Elder Scrolls games to create a MMO (massively multiplayer online game) like World of Warcraft has caused much excitement since it was announced last year.
Yesterday, the beta testing period opened for registration, allowing interested gamers to sign up for a chance to try The Elder Scrolls Online early.
I spoke to Matt Firor, game director at developer Zenimax Online Studios, to find out more about what players have to look forward to.

Elder Scrolls Online Reveal Interview

DizzyPW was invited along with a small group of hand picked MMORPG enthusiasts to travel to Zenimax Studios in Maryland last week for the first ever hands-on gameplay with Elder Scrolls Online. Following a 6 hour play session he had a chance to sit down with the Game Director Matt Firor to get a feel for the basics of the title including the world reveal of their Megaserver technology and incorporation of social media into in-game faction creation. With the popular elements of both Skyrim and major MMORPGs being melded into one AAA title, there's plenty of reason to be excited for Zenimax's upcoming beta plans.

We have known for a while that three faction RvR in Cyrodiil is one of the crown jewels of TESO endgame, but the details on how this system functions have been a bit unclear. Our interview revealed an amazing number of details about how the alliance war works, and the mechanics involved in large scale PvP in TESO.

This interview is a bit lengthy, but the amount of information covered is awesome. We talk about a ton of topics including campaigns, victory conditions, open world pvp, objectives, alternate advancement, stealth, and keep sieges. I encourage all of you to click through, read on, and check it out!
